Sanitary High-Shear Mixers & Homogenizers
Inline rotor-stator units that emulsify, disperse, dissolve and homogenize in a single pass — for mayonnaise, dressings, creams, lotions, slurries and pharma suspensions. Fully CIP-cleanable and built to 3-A and EHEDG hygienic design.
Emulsify, disperse and homogenize in one pass
A sanitary high-shear mixer is an inline rotor-stator pump. A high-speed rotor drives product through the fine slots of a fixed stator, and the intense shear that results breaks droplets and particles down to a fine, stable size. It emulsifies oil and water, disperses powders, dissolves gums and homogenizes creams — pumping the product through at the same time. The crevice-free, drainable body cleans in place. Tell us your product and target fineness and we will size the right unit — free, within 24 hours. New to this pump type? Read how a high-shear mixer works.

Specs reflect the DONJOY emulsifying / homogenizing range we reference: throughput to 220 GPM (50 m³/h), drives to 90 kW, single-stage (6–10 rotor-stator rows) or 3-stage / 12-row multistage for finer product, in 316L and ASME-BPE 316L (1.4435), surface ≤ Ra 0.8 / 0.6 / 0.4 µm. Generator geometry, seals, connections, finish and the supply source are matched to your product and may be made to order.
Built to the standards your auditor checks
Every high-shear mixer is specified to crevice-free, drainable hygienic design with documented material traceability — 3-A and EHEDG design principles, FDA-compliant materials, with 316L (and ASME-BPE 1.4435) wetted parts electropolished to Ra ≤ 0.4 µm for clean CIP/SIP performance.

About sanitary high-shear mixers
A high-shear mixer is an inline rotor-stator machine that mixes and pumps at once. The rotor spins fast inside a fixed stator, and product is forced through the narrow gap between them. The shear in that gap tears droplets apart, breaks up agglomerated powder and refines the mix — so one pass emulsifies, disperses and homogenizes while moving product down the line. More rotor-stator rows, or more stages, mean more shear and a finer result.
Why hygienic processors choose high-shear mixers
They replace slow tank mixing with fast, repeatable inline processing. A single unit wets out powders without lumps, builds stable oil-in-water emulsions, and hydrates gums and stabilizers in minutes rather than hours. The 316L electropolished wetted parts, crevice-free and drainable, meet the requirements of 3-A and EHEDG hygienic design and clean in place with the line.
Matching the mixer to your product
The right selection balances throughput, viscosity, target fineness and your cleaning regime. Single-stage units suit most emulsifying and dispersing; multistage units reach a finer, more stable product; powder-induction builds (PMZX) add and wet out dry ingredients in one step. For sub-micron emulsions, follow the mixer with a high-pressure homogenizer. For simple gentle transfer instead of mixing, compare a rotary lobe pump or a sanitary centrifugal pump. Not sure?
